A recent publication in the online Vanguard of Monday , 6/7/2026 carried a news item in which the Sokoto State ADC governorship candidate for 2027 election ostensibly showed concern on the insecurity in the state.

I perceived the news  as a cynical attempt to weaponize the issue of insecurity for cheap political gains. While the ADC puts on a theatrical performance of concern, the reality is that their rhetoric is not only misleading but also a dangerous attempt to undermine the collective efforts of the security agencies and the state government.

While it is germine for any opposition party to criticize the government, it is crucial to base such criticisms on objective assessments rather than populist rhetoric. The statements therefore requires a careful consideration of the facts.

Insecurity, it must be understood, is a complex issue that transcends state boundaries and is influenced by various national and global factors. Blaming or tasking the state government alone overlooks the multifaceted nature of the problem, including economic challenges, social unrest, and regional dynamics that require collaborative solutions rather than mere finger-pointing.

According to sources from Bodinga local government area of the state from where the ADC candidate based his concern it was learnt that bandits attacked some villages in the local government, particularly Kulodo village where they killed the village head and his son. Some concerned citizens became worried by the sad development hence they came out to demonstrate against the insecurity.

Unfortunately some undesirable elements not only hijacked the protest but blocked the main road in Bodinga town where they spent many hours before they were dispersed by security personnel.

It is hypocritical, to say the least, for a party that has been conspicuously silent on state government’s efforts on security to suddenly find its voice against the same government that has been proactive.

It is on record that the current Sokoto State administration has made significant strides in addressing security concerns. The state government, under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, has not only procured over 200 brand new vehicles and sophisticated communication gadgets for security operatives but has also established a robust synergy with traditional rulers and local vigilantes.

Records available showed that Sokoto State government has constructed 100 modern housing units, along with a solar mini-grid, a climate peace hub, and other amenities, to shelter persons displaced by recent floods and insecurity in Amarawa village of Illela local government area of the state.

Similarly, in Rabah local government area, the government flagged off the construction of another 100 housing units for IDPs in this area. Historically, this LGA (specifically in Gandi village) was also the site of a 150-unit IDP resettlement city project initiated in partnership with foreign NGOs.

In Sokoto metropolis, the state executive council had approved the purchase of a private building for N100 million to serve as a permanent IDP shelter to accommodate and help integrate displaced persons in the state capital.

Only recently the government procured 62 armoured vehicles, 320 motorcycles and high-tech gadgets and handed all to the security.

Where was the ADC when these initiatives were being rolled out?

Their selective amnesia is a clear indication that their interest is not the safety of Sokoto citizens, but the survival of their crises -ridden party.

Furthermore, the insecurity plaguing the North-West is a national crisis —a fact the ADC conveniently ignored. To now turn around and blame a state government that has committed unprecedented resources to security is a master class in political deceit.

The ADC cannot ride on the back of national tragedies to revive their troubled party.

If the ADC is truly interested in fighting insecurity, they should join hands with the government to find solutions to the problem rather than acting as demolition squads from the sidelines. Let them come forward with constructive suggestions, not inflammatory press releases designed to instill fear and score political points. The people of Sokoto are wiser than the ADC gives them credit for; they see through this desperate attempt to remain relevant. . Moreover, rather than politicizing the issue of security, a united front among all political parties would serve the interests of the people far better. It is only through collaboration that we can tackle the root causes of insecurity effectively.

While it is the duty of the opposition to hold the government accountable, it is equally important to approach these issues with integrity and a commitment to constructive dialogue. The people of Sokoto deserve a political landscape that prioritizes solutions over sensationalism. Let’s work together for a safer and more prosperous Sokoto State.

Finally, the good people of Sokoto should disregard this propaganda. The government remains steadfast in its commitment to protect lives and property, and it will not be distracted by the antics of a party that has nothing to offer but noise.

Insecurity has become one of the most difficult challenges confronting Nigeria today, particularly across the North-West where communities continue to grapple with the devastating activities of bandits and other criminal elements.

The menace has not only claimed lives but has also undermined economic growth, disrupted social harmony and weakened the confidence of citizens in pursuing their daily livelihoods. Restoring peace has therefore become an urgent national priority that requires commitment, collaboration and sustained investment.

Banditry has evolved from isolated criminal acts into a sophisticated network of organized violence that threatens entire communities. Once peaceful villages that depended on agriculture, commerce and communal coexistence now live under the constant fear of attacks, kidnappings and destruction of property. The situation has placed enormous pressure on governments at all levels to adopt more innovative and proactive security measures.

The consequences have been far-reaching. Thousands of farmers have abandoned fertile farmlands, resulting in reduced agricultural production and worsening food insecurity. Businesses have suffered, schools have been disrupted, while many families have been forced to flee their ancestral homes in search of safety. Beyond the physical destruction, the emotional and psychological scars left on victims continue to affect communities long after attacks have ended.

Recognising the gravity of the challenge, the Federal Government and state governments have intensified coordinated efforts to confront criminality through military operations, improved intelligence gathering, enhanced surveillance and closer collaboration among security agencies. Increasingly, there is a growing understanding that defeating insecurity requires not only brave personnel but also adequate operational support.

It is against this backdrop that the Sokoto State Government has continued to distinguish itself through deliberate and sustained investments in security. Since assuming office, Governor Ahmed Aliyu has consistently demonstrated that safeguarding lives and property is not merely a constitutional obligation but the foundation upon which every other development aspiration depends.

His administration has therefore continued to complement federal security efforts by providing logistics, operational support and modern equipment to security agencies.

The recent commissioning of 62 operational vehicles, 320 motorcycles, Buffalo Armoured Personnel Carriers, bullet-resistant vehicles and other sophisticated security equipment valued at ₦27.6 billion represents another major milestone in that commitment.

More than the impressive figures, the investment reflects a clear understanding that modern security challenges demand modern solutions and that security personnel cannot effectively confront heavily armed criminals without adequate tools.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu explained that Sokoto’s geographical location, sharing borders with Zamfara and Katsina States as well as the Republic of Niger, exposes several communities to persistent security threats. This reality, he noted, informed his administration’s decision to accord security the highest priority immediately after assuming office. His remarks demonstrate a leadership style anchored on confronting challenges through practical action rather than mere rhetoric.

The governor’s account of previous interventions further reinforces the consistency of the administration’s security policy. From supplying hundreds of patrol vehicles and motorcycles to security agencies, establishing the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps, constructing military and police barracks, operationalising the Nigerian Air Force Base, upgrading surveillance capabilities and supporting the welfare of security personnel, the state has steadily built a comprehensive security support system. The latest procurement therefore represents another important layer in an already expanding security architecture.

Perhaps the most significant aspect of the governor’s remarks is his recognition that technology has become indispensable in modern security operations. Night-vision devices, thermal imaging equipment, armoured personnel carriers and advanced communication systems are no longer luxury items but operational necessities.

Criminals have become increasingly sophisticated, making it imperative for security agencies to possess equipment capable of enhancing intelligence gathering, improving mobility and providing greater protection for personnel operating in difficult terrains.

The significance of these investments was further underscored by the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd.), whose assessment carries considerable weight given his professional military background. Describing the procurement as a demonstration of strategic leadership and responsible governance, the minister acknowledged that Governor Ahmed Aliyu has consistently supported security agencies with operational vehicles, logistics and other critical resources. Such commendation from the nation’s Defence Minister affirms that the state’s approach aligns with national security priorities.

General Musa also highlighted an important operational reality, effective security personnel require effective equipment. According to him, the newly commissioned assets will substantially improve mobility, operational effectiveness and the protection of officers engaged in combating banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes. His statement reinforces the long-held military principle that the outcome of security operations depends not only on the courage and professionalism of personnel but also on the quality of the tools placed in their hands.

Equally noteworthy is the shared conviction expressed by both Governor Ahmed Aliyu and the Defence Minister that security remains a collective responsibility. While governments must continue to provide logistics, equipment and institutional support, citizens also have an indispensable role through the provision of timely and credible intelligence. The combination of modern technology, motivated security personnel and active community participation offers the strongest foundation for achieving lasting peace.

As the battle against banditry continues, the Sokoto example illustrates an important lesson for public policy. Investments in sophisticated security equipment are not merely expenditures, they are investments in human lives, economic recovery and social stability.

By equipping security agencies with the modern tools required to confront evolving threats, governments significantly improve their capacity to protect citizens, reclaim vulnerable communities and create the secure environment necessary for development to flourish. In the fight against insecurity, providing security personnel with the right equipment is not optional, it is indispensable.

Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, on Thursday commissioned the ultra-modern Sokoto All-Girls Science Academy (SAGSA), describing the institution as a landmark investment in the future of the girl-child and a major milestone in the transformation of the state’s education sector.

The Governor said the establishment of the specialised science academy was part of his administration’s commitment to providing quality education, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), to enable students compete favourably in a rapidly changing global environment.

The academy was commissioned by former Governor of Sokoto State, Malam Yahaya Abdulkarim, who commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for making education a priority and urged the state government to acquire full ownership of the institution.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Ahmed Aliyu said education remains the strongest foundation for sustainable development, economic growth, social stability and technological advancement.

He explained that this informed his administration’s decision to make education a key component of its Nine-Point SMART Agenda, with increased budgetary allocation and implementation of various interventions aimed at improving learning outcomes across the state.

The Governor disclosed that from May 2023 to date, his administration has embarked on several education projects, including the construction and renovation of schools, rehabilitation of existing facilities, provision of learning materials, recruitment of teachers and support programmes aimed at keeping children in school.

He listed some of the interventions to include the construction and renovation of 10 primary and secondary schools across the state at the cost of ₦8.4 billion, renovation of 240 schools with toilet facilities and boreholes, payment of ₦3.47 billion for WAEC, NECO and NABTEB examination fees, and the settlement of an inherited ₦824 million examination fee debt.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu added that his administration introduced monthly grants for principals of 329 secondary schools, procured and distributed desks and chairs, supplied teaching and learning materials, introduced school transportation services, established digital learning facilities, recruited 2,000 teachers and strengthened collaboration with development partners, including UNICEF and Plan International.

He said the state’s interventions had contributed significantly to reducing the number of out-of-school children, while efforts to integrate Qur’anic schools into the formal education system had provided literacy, numeracy and vocational skills to thousands of children.

According to him, students admitted into the Sokoto All-Girls Science Academy were selected transparently from all the 23 Local Government Areas of the state based strictly on merit, ensuring fairness, inclusiveness and equal opportunity.

The Governor assured that his administration would continue to support brilliant students and ensure that financial limitations do not prevent talented children from achieving their educational aspirations.

He described the academy as a product of a successful partnership between the Sokoto State Government and Maiguriba Group of Companies, expressing appreciation to the private partner for its commitment to educational development.

In his remarks, Secretary to the state government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa, disclosed that the state government had acquired a 51 per cent equity stake in the academy at the cost of ₦1.366 billion, making it the majority shareholder in the institution.

He explained that the partnership followed a proposal by the promoter of the academy, Dr. Nasir Argungu, for the establishment of a world-class science institution.

The SSG,said the state government would, in due course, acquire the remaining 49 per cent equity stake to make the academy fully owned by the government.

He described education and security as the two most important responsibilities of government, stressing that no meaningful development can take place without the protection of lives and property and the provision of quality education.

In his remarks, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Maiguriba Group of Companies, Dr. Nasir Argungu, expressed appreciation to Governor Ahmed Aliyu for supporting the vision and transforming the dream of establishing the academy into reality.

He described the institution as one of the best educational facilities in Nigeria, capable of competing with leading schools internationally.

Dr. Nasir said the academy has modern boarding facilities for more than 600 female students, state-of-the-art science laboratories, an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre equipped with 50 desktop computers, a fully stocked clinic linked with Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital and Specialist Hospital, as well as standard sporting facilities.

He added that the institution has secured registration with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), National Examinations Council (NECO), Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

He expressed optimism that by 2031, the academy would produce female medical doctors, engineers, pharmacists, nurses, physiotherapists, radiographers and other professionals who would contribute to the development of Sokoto State and Nigeria.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for placing education at the centre of his administration’s development agenda.

He said the academy represents hope and a brighter future for children in Sokoto State, adding that improved infrastructure, teacher recruitment, effective supervision and monitoring had enhanced discipline and learning outcomes in schools across the state.

He also revealed that the Sokoto All-Girls Science Academy had already emerged winner of a competition organised by the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Sokoto Chapter, despite being a newly established institution.

Commissioning the academy, former Governor of Sokoto State,Malam Yahaya Abdulkarim praised Governor Ahmed Aliyu for making education a priority, saying the transformation witnessed in the sector reflects purposeful leadership.

The former governor, who served as a Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, said he was impressed by the development at Government Science Secondary School, Yabo, and the establishment of the new academy.

He advised the state government to complete the process of acquiring the remaining stake in the institution, arguing that strategic educational facilities should be fully controlled by government.

Abdulkarim noted that with the growing number of universities in Sokoto State, there was a need to strengthen secondary education to produce qualified students who would fill those institutions.

He expressed confidence that with the current reforms, Sokoto students would be able to compete favourably with graduates of leading schools across the country.

Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, on Thursday reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to revitalising science and technical education with the commissioning of the renovated, remodelled and expanded Government Science Secondary School (GSSS), Yabo, as part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration.

The project, which was commissioned by the Governor’s former teacher and Vice Principal, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abdullahi DanGaladima,Sarkin Gobir of Sabon Birni, marked a historic return of one of Sokoto State’s foremost science schools to its former glory.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Governor said the renovation and expansion of the school represented his administration’s way of giving back to an institution that played a significant role in shaping his academic foundation, character and leadership journey.

He recalled that Government Science Secondary School, Yabo, was among the best secondary schools in the state during his student days, with quality infrastructure, well-equipped laboratories and a vibrant academic environment, before years of neglect affected its standard.

“As an alumnus of this great institution, I felt a strong sense of responsibility to restore it to its former glory.

This project is my humble expression of gratitude to the school that laid the foundation for my educational and leadership journey,” the Governor stated.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu stressed that education, particularly science, technology and technical education, remains the foundation for socio-economic development and modern civilisation.

He disclosed that since assuming office in May 2023, his administration has consistently prioritised education through increased budgetary allocations and strategic interventions aimed at improving learning outcomes across the state.

According to him, apart from the renovation of GSSS Yabo, the administration has remodelled Nagarta College, Sokoto, completed the first phase of the renovation of Government Girls Science Secondary School, Sokoto, and rehabilitated several institutions under the Ministry of Science and Technology, including Government Girls College, Tambuwal, and Government Technical College, Runjin Sambo.

The Governor further revealed that adequate budgetary provisions had been made to renovate the remaining schools under the ministry, while outstanding projects would be completed in subsequent fiscal years.

He also highlighted other interventions, including the rehabilitation and re-equipping of technical workshops, provision of modern laboratory equipment, science textbooks, classroom furniture, students’ beds and mattresses, kitchen utensils and other instructional materials to enhance teaching and learning.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu added that his administration had increased boarding school feeding allocations by over 300 per cent to improve the quality and nutritional value of meals served to students.

He noted that Sokoto State has fully embraced the Federal Government’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative, describing technical and vocational education as a vital tool for skills acquisition, youth empowerment, industrialisation and sustainable economic development.

The Governor commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the Renewed Hope Agenda and reaffirmed Sokoto State’s commitment to supporting policies aimed at improving education and national development.

He urged parents and guardians to encourage their children to acquire both Islamic and Western education, particularly in science, technology and technical disciplines, in order to prepare them for future challenges.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu thereafter invited his former teacher and Vice Principal, Sarkin Gobir of Sabon Birni, to formally commission the project, describing the gesture as a mark of appreciation for the invaluable role teachers play in shaping future leaders.

He called on parents, teachers and members of the community to support government efforts by ensuring proper maintenance of the facilities.

In his remarks, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abdullahi DanGaladima,Sarkin Gobir of Sabon Birni, commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for the remarkable intervention, describing the renovation and expansion of GSSS Yabo as a landmark investment in education.

The royal father, who taught Governor Ahmed Aliyu and served as Vice Principal during his secondary school days, said the provision of modern classrooms, laboratories and other facilities would significantly improve teaching and learning while securing a brighter future for generations of students.

He praised the Governor’s commitment to strengthening education through improved infrastructure and support for teachers and students, expressing appreciation for remembering his alma mater.

Representing the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, the District Head of Kilgori, Dr. Muhammad Jabbi Kilgori, commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his commitment to educational development.

He described the renovation, remodelling and expansion of Government Science Secondary School, Yabo, as a visionary investment that would contribute significantly to the future development of Sokoto State.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Professor Attahiru Ahmad Sifawa, described the commissioning as a historic milestone in the educational development of Sokoto State.

He said GSSS Yabo played a significant role in moulding Governor Ahmed Aliyu during his formative years and commended the Governor for restoring the institution to its former status.
Professor Sifawa noted that the decision to invite his former teacher to commission the project demonstrated humility, gratitude and respect for the teaching profession.

In separate goodwill messages, distinguished alumni of the school applauded Governor Ahmed Aliyu for restoring one of Sokoto State’s most prestigious secondary institutions.

Professor Riskuwa Arabia Shehu described the project as the fulfilment of a long-awaited dream, praising the Governor for remembering his roots and investing in future generations.

Similarly, His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammad Sani Sami Gomo, Emir of Zuru, another distinguished alumnus of the school, said the renovation would restore the institution’s reputation as a centre of academic excellence and leadership.

The Chief of Staff, Government House, Sokoto, Alhaji Aminu Haliru Dikko, and the Chief of Staff to the Kebbi State Government, Alhaji Attahiru Maccido, both former students of the school, recalled their experiences at GSSS Yabo and paid tribute to the teachers whose guidance prepared them for leadership and public service.

They commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for preserving the school’s legacy through comprehensive renovation and expansion, describing the intervention as a worthy investment in human capital development.

The commissioning of the renovated, remodelled and expanded Government Science Secondary School, Yabo, formed part of activities marking the third anniversary of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration, reflecting his government’s commitment to educational advancement and sustainable development.

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd.), on Wednesday commissioned 62 operational vehicles, 320 motorcycles and other high-tech security equipment worth ₦27.6 billion procured by the Sokoto State Government to strengthen the fight against insecurity and restore lasting peace across the state.

The security assets, unveiled at a ceremony in Sokoto, comprised operational vehicles, Buffalo Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), bullet-resistant vehicles, motorcycles, bulletproof helmets and vests, night-vision devices, thermal imaging equipment, security kits and other sophisticated equipment designed to strengthen intelligence gathering, enhance operational mobility and improve the capacity of security agencies in combating banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Ahmed Aliyu noted that Sokoto State’s proximity to Zamfara and Katsina States as well as the Republic of Niger has exposed parts of the state, particularly communities in the eastern corridor, to persistent security threats.

He said the situation informed his administration’s decision to accord the security sector the highest priority immediately after assuming office by providing every necessary support to security agencies to effectively combat banditry and other criminal activities.

Governor Aliyu recalled that his administration had earlier procured and distributed over 200 patrol vehicles and more than 250 motorcycles to security agencies operating in the state, restored and increased monthly allowances for personnel serving in volatile communities, established the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps equipped with 40 Hilux operational vehicles and 700 motorcycles, constructed a military barracks in Illela and a Mobile Police Barracks in Tangaza Local Government Area, operationalised the Nigerian Air Force Base in Sokoto, upgraded the communication and surveillance capabilities of the Department of State Services and donated housing units to security agencies to improve the welfare of security personnel.

He further disclosed that the state government had supplied operational vehicles to the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Air Force, donated motorcycles to the Department of State Services, procured Buffalo Armoured Personnel Carriers and BMW R1250 GS Adventure motorcycles and facilitated the establishment of additional Forward Operating Bases in Kagara, Sabon Birni and Isa Local Government Areas to strengthen rapid response to security threats.

According to the governor, the latest intervention includes additional Buffalo APCs, upgraded armoured vehicles, motorcycles, thousands of security kits, bulletproof helmets and vests, night-vision devices, thermal imaging equipment and other modern security gadgets that will be strategically deployed to identified flashpoints across the state.

Governor Aliyu also announced the donation of operational vehicles and motorcycles to the Federal Ministry of Works to support security along the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway project initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He disclosed that the first batch of Forest Guards recruited under the Federal Government initiative had successfully completed training and had been deployed across the state, while expressing optimism that the second phase of recruitment would further strengthen surveillance across forests and rural communities.

The governor expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support to Sokoto State and commended the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, for honouring the state’s invitation despite his demanding national assignment.

He also thanked the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services for supporting Sokoto State’s participation in the Forest Guard initiative, urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence because security remains a collective responsibility.

Commissioning the security assets, General Christopher Musa described the investment as a demonstration of strategic leadership and responsible governance, saying it reflects Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of the people of Sokoto State.

The Defence Minister, who expressed pride in being a son of Sokoto State, recalled his childhood memories in the state and commended Governor Aliyu for consistently supporting security agencies through the provision of operational vehicles, logistics and other critical resources.

“This is not the first time the Governor has provided operational vehicles and logistics to security agencies.

He has consistently supported our security institutions, and we remain grateful for his unwavering commitment,” the minister said.

General Musa noted that the newly commissioned assets would significantly improve the mobility, operational effectiveness and protection of security personnel engaged in combating banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes.

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to strengthening the Armed Forces and other security agencies through improved welfare, enhanced intelligence capabilities, modern technology and stronger inter-agency collaboration.

The minister stressed that security is a shared responsibility and urged citizens to continue providing credible information to security agencies, while charging officers entrusted with the newly commissioned equipment to maintain the assets properly and deploy them professionally in accordance with the law and established rules of engagement.

In a goodwill message delivered on behalf of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Director of Internal Affairs in the Office of the National Security Adviser, Mr. Solomon, conveyed the NSA’s warm greetings to the Government and people of Sokoto State and apologised for his inability to attend due to pressing official engagements.

Mr. Solomon commended the Sokoto State Government for its sustained investment in strengthening security through the provision of operational vehicles, Buffalo APCs, Hilux vehicles, motorcycles and other logistics, as well as the recruitment, sponsorship and training of about 2,000 Community Guards to complement conventional security agencies.

He disclosed that the Office of the National Security Adviser had facilitated the training of 1,000 Forest Guards for Sokoto State and ensured the prompt processing of the End-User Certificates required for the procurement of the newly commissioned security equipment.

He reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to improving security nationwide and assured Governor Ahmed Aliyu of the National Security Adviser’s continued support in advancing national security and safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians.

Mr. Solomon also congratulated General Christopher Musa on the honour of having a major road named after him in Sokoto State, describing the recognition as a fitting tribute to his exemplary leadership, patriotism and distinguished service to Nigeria.

In a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Sokoto State, Mallam Sa’idu Umar Ubandoma, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ubandoma, a key stakeholder in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a prominent figure in the political movement of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, was received into the APC by the leader of the party in Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko (Sarkin Yamman Sokoto), at his residence in Asokoro, Abuja.

A seasoned public servant, Ubandoma served as Commissioner for Finance and later as Secretary to the Sokoto State Government under the administration of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. He was also fielded by the PDP as its governorship candidate in the 2023 general election.

Explaining the reasons for his defection, Ubandoma said he was inspired by the quality of leadership and political maturity demonstrated by Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, as well as the remarkable performance of Governor Ahmed Aliyu in delivering people-oriented projects across Sokoto State.

He noted that the administration’s achievements in infrastructure development, education, healthcare, agriculture, rural development, and other critical sectors convinced him that the APC remains the most credible platform for the continued growth and development of Sokoto State.

Welcoming the new entrant, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko described the defection as a significant boost to the APC and a testament to the confidence many political leaders continue to repose in the party’s leadership and development agenda.

Sen. Wamakko assured Ubandoma and his supporters of a warm reception, and mutual respect, into the affairs of the party, stressing that the APC remains open to all well-meaning citizens committed to the unity, peace, and development of Sokoto State.

The Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, on Monday commissioned the ₦3.7 billion Buzaye Area Road Network in Sokoto as part of activities marking the third anniversary of the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, describing the project as another milestone in the state’s drive towards sustainable development and improved infrastructure.

The newly commissioned project, executed by ZBCC Nigeria Limited at a cost of ₦3.7 billion, comprises Argungu Road, Gobir Road, Lanzu Road and other connecting roads covering approximately five kilometres in the Buzaye area of Sokoto metropolis.

The project is expected to improve mobility, ease traffic congestion, enhance security and stimulate commercial and social activities within the area.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Ahmed Aliyu said the completion of the road network underscores his administration’s unwavering commitment to providing quality infrastructure that directly impacts the lives of the people. He described infrastructure as the bedrock of economic growth and sustainable development, stressing that no society can attain meaningful progress without functional roads and other essential public facilities.

The governor noted that the Buzaye Area Road Network would significantly improve access to residential neighbourhoods, schools, healthcare facilities, markets, places of worship and business centres, thereby reducing travel time, lowering transportation costs and creating a more conducive environment for businesses to thrive.

He explained that the project forms part of his administration’s comprehensive Urban Renewal Programme, through which several roads, drainage systems and other critical infrastructure have either been completed or are at various stages of completion across Sokoto State.

Governor Aliyu reiterated that his administration remains committed to equitable development across the state, assuring that both urban and rural communities would continue to benefit from impactful projects aimed at improving the welfare of the people and promoting sustainable economic growth.

He expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, for accepting the invitation to commission the project despite his busy schedule, describing the visit as a demonstration of the strong bond of friendship and cooperation existing between Taraba and Sokoto States.

Governor Aliyu also commended the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, the contractor, ZBCC Nigeria Limited, consultants, engineers and members of the host community for their dedication and cooperation, which ensured the successful execution of the project.

While calling on residents to protect the newly commissioned roads from vandalism and misuse, he stressed that public infrastructure belongs to the people and must be preserved for future generations.

He also acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu towards infrastructure development and national growth under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Commissioning the project, Governor Agbu Kefas described the event as a celebration of visionary leadership, purposeful governance and the dividends of democracy.

The Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, has charged newly sworn-in commissioners, special advisers, permanent secretaries, the Chairman and members of the Sokoto State Independent Electoral Commission (SOSIEC), and members of the Sokoto State House of Assembly Service Commission to uphold the highest standards of integrity, accountability and professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Speaking shortly after administering the oath of office and allegiance to the appointees at the Government House, council chamber,Sokoto, Governor Aliyu described their appointments as a call to selfless service and an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state.

The governor said the appointments reflected his administration’s commitment to strengthening governance and improving public service delivery, stressing that the confidence reposed in the appointees must be justified through dedication, hard work and exemplary conduct.

He urged the newly inaugurated officials to lead by example, discharge their duties with honesty, transparency and discipline, and always place the interests of the people above personal considerations.
