Danko-Wasagu LG Chairman Denies U.S. Lawmaker’s Claims On Maga Girls, Says All Are Muslims; Releases Names

The Chairman of Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi state, Hussaini Aliyu, has dismissed a claim credited to U.S. lawmaker Riley Moore alleging that the abduction of the Maga school girls took place in a Christian enclave.

Aliyu clarified that all the abducted school girls are Muslims, describing the comment as misleading and capable of sowing unnecessary religious tension at a time when government efforts are focused on securing the girls’ release.

He stressed that the Zuru Emirate, under which Maga community falls, has a long history of peaceful coexistence and has never experienced religious crises. He therefore urged the U.S. lawmaker to refrain from making unverified statements that portray Nigeria negatively or undermine national unity.

Sokoto Completes N7bn Independent Power Plant

The long-awaited Independent Power Plant (IPP) constructed by the Sokoto State Government has been completed.

This was disclosed by the state Commissioner for Energy, Alhaji Sanusi Danfulani on Wednesday while leading journalists on an inspection tour of the facility.

“We have good news. The state government has invested billions of naira in this project. So far, the plant is completed and, according to our technical experts, it is satisfactory,” he said.

He added that, “Our technical team and the contractor will now reconvene to determine the next line of action.”

The commissioner expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his support, noting that the governor recently released N1.5 billion for the plant’s rehabilitation and completion.

He also acknowledged the APC leader in the state, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, who initiated the project during his tenure as governor.

Speaking during the visit, the Ministry’s Director of Electrical Services, Engr. Abubakar Shehu, revealed that some components of the plant were test-run last week.

He declined to comment on plans for power evacuation and distribution, stating that such decisions rest with the state government and relevant power authorities.

The 38-megawatt power project was originally awarded in 2008 to U.S.-based Vulcan Capital Energy at an initial cost of N3.8 billion, with a six-month completion target.

However, the deadline was repeatedly extended—from 2009 to 2010, then to 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016, and eventually 2019.

It was learnt that an additional N1.7 billion was committed to the project in 2020 by the administration of former Governor Aminu Tambuwal, while the present administration injected another N1.5 billion to bring it to completion.

Senator Wamakko’s political career began in earnest when he was elected as the Governor of Sokoto State in 2007. Court slams life jail on Nnamdi Kanu

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has been sentenced to life imprisonment after finding him guilty on multiple counts bordering on terrorism, membership of an unlawful organisation, and incitement.

Kanu was sentenced by the Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice James Omotosho on Wednesday in a tense courtroom packed with security operatives, lawyers and observers. The sentencing brings to a close the most closely watched trial in recent years.
In his ruling, Justice Omotosho held that the prosecution successfully established that Kanu’s actions and broadcasts contributed to violent attacks in parts of the South-East. The court ruled that the offences were “of a nature that threaten national security,” stressing that deterrence was necessary.

“The defendant, having been afforded every opportunity to defend himself in line with Section 36 of the Constitution, is hereby convicted.”
The Judge also ordered that Kanu will be kept in Protective Custody in any correctional facility in the country with no access to Mobile or Electrical communication devices

Matawalle donates N10 million, 100 bags of assorted grains to family of slain APC chieftain

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello has donated the sum of N10 million and 100 bags of assorted grains to the family of an APC chieftain, Alhaji Umar S/Fada who was killed by unknown gunmen on his way to Kaduna from Gusau last Saturday

Matawalle was among the first sympathisers that attended late funeral prayer of late Alhaji Umar S/Fada.

 

 

Condoling the family of the deceased at the Federal low cost in Gusau, Matawalle said his death was a monumental loss to the state and the nation at large considering his philanthropic activities that touched lives of many citizens especially his close neighbours and relatives.

He said, “Late Alhaji Umar will be remembered for his honesty, patience and openness in all his dealings  politically and in his business.

He prayed Almighty Allah to reward his soul with the most exalted paradise and give his family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Responding on behalf of the deceased’s family,  Ambassador Abubakar Hussaini Moriki thanked the Minister for the concern and care he showed.

 

 

Moriki said, ”We aware that the Minister had earlier cancelled all his schedules to mourn the death of our brother and also travelled from his hometown of Maradun to attend the funeral prayer and commiserate with us in this hard time of grief”.

Moriki also prayed to Almighty Allah to reward the Minister abundantly for the cash and food he donated to the family.

The funeral prayer was attended by the State APC Chairman, Hon Tukur Umar Danfulani, Secretary, Hon Ibrahim Umar Dangaladima and former Chairman of the party, Hon. Lawal M. Liman,

Others were the APC Publicity Secretary, Malam Yusuf Idris Gusau, Welfare Secretary, Hon Bashir Idris Ataka, former Commissioners, former Special Advisers, former local government chairmen and Sole administrators,  Islamic scholars, Traditional rulers ,party supporters and many sympathiser.

Late Alhaji Umar S/Fada’s remains have since been buried according to Islamic rites at the Unguwar Gwaza cemetery, Gusau.
