The Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, on Monday commissioned the ₦3.7 billion Buzaye Area Road Network in Sokoto as part of activities marking the third anniversary of the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, describing the project as another milestone in the state’s drive towards sustainable development and improved infrastructure.
The newly commissioned project, executed by ZBCC Nigeria Limited at a cost of ₦3.7 billion, comprises Argungu Road, Gobir Road, Lanzu Road and other connecting roads covering approximately five kilometres in the Buzaye area of Sokoto metropolis.
The project is expected to improve mobility, ease traffic congestion, enhance security and stimulate commercial and social activities within the area.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Ahmed Aliyu said the completion of the road network underscores his administration’s unwavering commitment to providing quality infrastructure that directly impacts the lives of the people. He described infrastructure as the bedrock of economic growth and sustainable development, stressing that no society can attain meaningful progress without functional roads and other essential public facilities.
The governor noted that the Buzaye Area Road Network would significantly improve access to residential neighbourhoods, schools, healthcare facilities, markets, places of worship and business centres, thereby reducing travel time, lowering transportation costs and creating a more conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
He explained that the project forms part of his administration’s comprehensive Urban Renewal Programme, through which several roads, drainage systems and other critical infrastructure have either been completed or are at various stages of completion across Sokoto State.
Governor Aliyu reiterated that his administration remains committed to equitable development across the state, assuring that both urban and rural communities would continue to benefit from impactful projects aimed at improving the welfare of the people and promoting sustainable economic growth.
He expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, for accepting the invitation to commission the project despite his busy schedule, describing the visit as a demonstration of the strong bond of friendship and cooperation existing between Taraba and Sokoto States.
Governor Aliyu also commended the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, the contractor, ZBCC Nigeria Limited, consultants, engineers and members of the host community for their dedication and cooperation, which ensured the successful execution of the project.
While calling on residents to protect the newly commissioned roads from vandalism and misuse, he stressed that public infrastructure belongs to the people and must be preserved for future generations.
He also acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu towards infrastructure development and national growth under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Commissioning the project, Governor Agbu Kefas described the event as a celebration of visionary leadership, purposeful governance and the dividends of democracy.
He observed that investment in road infrastructure remains one of the most effective ways of stimulating economic growth because roads connect communities, facilitate trade and commerce, reduce transportation costs, create employment opportunities and improve access to education, healthcare and other essential services.
Governor Kefas congratulated Governor Ahmed Aliyu on the remarkable achievements recorded within three years in office, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, education, healthcare, water supply, youth empowerment, poverty alleviation, urban renewal and the promotion of peace and harmonious coexistence.
He urged the Sokoto governor to remain focused on consolidating the gains already achieved by ensuring the continued delivery of projects that improve the lives of the people and strengthen the state’s socio-economic development.
The Taraba governor further highlighted the longstanding historical and cultural ties between Taraba and Sokoto States, recalling the enduring relationship between the ancient Kwararafa Kingdom and the Sokoto Sultanate.
According to him, the shared history and mutual respect between the two states continue to promote unity, cooperation and national integration.
He also appealed to residents of the Buzaye community to safeguard the newly commissioned road network through proper maintenance and responsible use to ensure that it serves both present and future generations.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Organising Committee for the projects marking Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s third anniversary in office, Barrister Nasiru Aliyu Dan Tsoho, said the numerous projects executed by the administration are clear evidence of purposeful leadership and prudent management of public resources.
He stated that the projects being commissioned across the state demonstrate Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s determination to improve infrastructure, expand access to social services and fulfil the promises made to the people of Sokoto State.
Barrister Dan Tsoho added that the administration has continued to build upon the developmental foundation laid by Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko by initiating and completing impactful projects across critical sectors of the state’s economy.
Also speaking, the Magajin Rafin Sokoto, Alhaji Lirwanu Bello, who represented the Sultan of Sokoto, commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his commitment to the development of the state and his unwavering dedication to improving the welfare of the people.
He assured the governor of the Sultanate Council’s continued support and prayers for the success of his administration, urging residents to continue supporting government policies and programmes aimed at promoting peace, unity and sustainable development.
